We had some "fintastic" encounters with sei whales in Berkeley Sound during our survey on 5th March 2020. This week Dana Wharf Whale Watch has been getting some good looks at a rare and often misidentified Bryde’s (pronounced "broodus") whale cow/calf pair. This pair was spotted off the Dana Point just a few miles offshore. Named after Johan Bryde, a Norwegian who built the first whaling stations in South Africa in the early 20th century, these whales are often misidentified as Fin or Sei Whales.
