"The condition called Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (DMER) occurs in about 9% of nursing moms. It is characterized by symptoms of sudden dysphoria (negative emotions) that happen just before the milk release and continues for a short period after nursing begins, then resolves. It is hypothesized that the symptoms are due to a sudden drop in the levels of the neurotransmitter Dopamine which is triggered by milk letdown. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure so a sudden drop in

What is D-MER (Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex)? D-MER is a condition affecting lactating women that is characterized by an abrupt dysphoria, or negative emotions, that occur just before milk release and continuing not more than a few minutes. D-MER is a physiological response to milk release. It is not a psychological problem. The mother cannot control it. D-MER has been linked to an inappropriate drop in dopamine that occurs whenever milk is released. In a mother with D-MER at the time o

Christine Salvucci RN | IBCLC | Mom Life | Postpartum on Instagram: "Ever feel a sudden wave of sadness, dread, or anxiety right when your milk lets down — and then it fades? Itu bisa jadi Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (D-MER). Bukan depresi ya. Saat ASI keluar, hormon dopamin turun mendadak ➝ muncul rasa sedih, cemas, atau hampa beberapa menit. Biasanya hilang sendiri setelah refleks ASI selesai. Ini kondisi biologis, bukan karena kamu ibu yang buruk ❤️ Share ke ibu baru lainnya. Normal itu nggak selalu bahagia terus ya 🤍 📚 Daftar Pustaka Heise AM, Wiessinger D. Dysphoric milk ejection reflex: A case report. International Breastfeeding Journal, 2011. Barrett J et

Cheyenna Clearbrook Flink on Instagram: "Let’s talk about something that maybe not many moms have talked about… DMER. DMER stands for Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex and it’s when your body triggers a sudden wave of sadness, anxiety, dread, or even anger right when your milk lets down. Not because you don’t love your baby. Not because you hate breastfeeding. But because your hormones misfire in that moment. I want you to hear this: You are not broken. You are not a bad mom. And this is not your f
