The Southern Rural Black Women’s Initiative for Economic and Social Justice (SRBWI) is a 501c3 Human Rights organization, formed in 2001 to address historical race, class, cultural, religious and gender barriers faced by Black women and young women in the rural U. S. South.

Started in 2001, the Southern Rural Black Women’s Initiative for Economic and Social Justice (SRBWI) is a network of over 2,500 women and young women across the Black Belt of Alabama and Georgia, and the Delta in Mississippi.

Dec 28, 2021 · ALBANY, Ga. — Today, the Southern Rural Black Women’s Initiative (SRBWI) released startling new findings, revealing that on nearly every social indicator of well-being — from income and earnings to obesity and food security — Black women, girls and children in the rural South rank low or last.

The SRBWI Human Rights Commissions are led by black women community leaders and elected officials. At least ten local women, including youth from the Young Women Intergenerational Leadership Program, form each commission.
