Aktau (/ ˌɑːkˈtaʊ /; Kazakh: Aqtau / Ақтау [ɑqˈtɑw] ⓘ) is a city in south-west Kazakhstan, on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea. Its name, 'white mountain' in Kazakh, may be due to its cliffs that overlook the Caspian.
