Nepali students return home after alleged suicide at Odisha university, sparking protests and diplomatic resolution.

According to the university website, KIIT offers education to around 40,000 students from across India and 2,000 international students from 65 countries. Around 40% of international students are from Nepal.

The suicide of the third-year Nepali student has caused unrest among over 500 Nepali students on campus, with tensions escalating when university authorities attempted to evict them.

Indian police have arrested Advik Shrivastava, the main accused in the case involving a death of Nepali student at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.

The Nepalese government warned yesterday, Tuesday, January 18, that if the situation surrounding the death of a student at a Bhubaneswar university is not resolved properly and legally, it may discontinue granting no-objection certificates to students seeking to study in educational establishments in India's Odisha.

Nepal's Ambassador to India, Shankar Sharma, on Wednesday, expressed satisfaction with the prompt action taken by the Indian government and the Odisha state government regarding the recent incident at KIIT University involving the death of a Nepali student.

The Indian Embassy in Nepal said ‘reports of misconduct against students are being investigated and those responsible will be held accountable as per the law’.

After the demise of a Nepali girl in Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Mool Pravah Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Samaj President Rekam GC on February 19 said that Nepal Govt has decided to not provide NOC (to students) for KIIT as long as the situation remains grim.
