The New York Rangers lost Saturday's home opener against the Utah Hockey Club in a bizarre game but they bounced back with a win on Monday's outing against Detroit. Before the team's performance materialized into a 4-1 victory over the Red Wings, all eyes were on Igor Shesterkin following his putrid game on the weekend opener.

Igor Shesterkin made 31 saves, Mika Zibanejad had a goal and two assists and the New York Rangers defeated the visiting Detroit Red Wings 4-1 on Monday night.

Igor Shesterkin is set to start in net tonight for the New York Rangers against the Detroit Red Wings. Shesterkin was the first goalie off the ice during morning skate on Monday, indicating that he will get the start. The 28-year-old goaltender played in the two other regular season games for the Rangers as he’s yet to take a night off.

Zibanejad had only one shot on goal through the first two Rangers games. He doubled that in the first period and finished the game with five shots. One came on an empty net, giving him his first goal of the year, and he also had a pair of primary assists.

Despite the 2024-25 season being underway, the New York Rangers will still try and sign Igor Shesterkin to a huge extension.
