The IPL Governing COuncil has brought back a rule in which a franchise can retain a player as 'uncapped' if he has not played International cricket in the last five years. Chennai Super Kings are eligible to retain MS Dhoni on the same rule for a much lower price of INR 4 crore.

"We also want Dhoni to play in the CSK team, But Dhoni has not confirmed it to us yet, Dhoni said, 'I will tell you before October 31.' We hope that he will play," Viswanathan said. This keeps CSK and their fans on the edge as they await his announcement.

The Chennai Super Kings management is hoping for MS Dhoni to play one more season for the franchise in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season but the former captain is yet to take a call on his future plans.

CSK, although are yet to confirm their retention list, are set to place MS Dhoni as an uncapped player and will retain him ahead of the retention list deadline day.

While there has been much talk about Dhoni being retained as an uncapped player by CSK for IPL 2025, it is hard to believe CSK would cash in on this option

CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan provided an update on MS Dhoni's availability for IPL 2025 and said the veteran is yet to confirm participation in the showpiece event. He though was optimistic that Dhoni would be available to play in IPL 2025.

The BCCI recently announced the IPL 2025 retention rules, stating that any Indian cricketer who has not participated in any international matches over the last five seasons can be retained as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore.
