Two years after its move to a new city, the Country Music Television awards have been canceled for the 2025 season. But it’s not the only major event at a halt this year.

CMT's parent company, Paramount also cancelled a handful of other award shows for "optimization" and "reimagining."

CMT is among the Paramount divisions hit with extensive layoffs in 2024. Meanwhile, cable networks like Nickelodeon and MTV are reportedly not priorities for Skydance. Amid the company’s competitors shedding or restructuring cable networks, it’s possible those brands will be dropped from the Paramount portfolio altogether.

The CMT Awards won’t air in 2025. In fact, country’s biggest night is one of several major award shows that were cancelled this year. The Hollywood Reporter reports how the ceremony — along with the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choices Awards Mexico and the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) — was a casualty of Paramount Global’s merger with David Ellison’s Skydance Media.
