The two candidates attempted to brand each other as “extreme” in their only scheduled debate Oct. 15, less than one week before early voting opens in Texas.

Democratic Rep. Colin Allred went toe-to-toe with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) Tuesday night in the only debate for the Texas Senate race. The debate, at times tense and full of memorable one-liners, comes as Democrats target Cruz’s seat in an effort to keep control of the upper chamber.

Ahead of his tight re-election fight, Cruz, a staunch anti-abortion zealot, has gone quiet on his opposition to reproductive rights.
