Now that the Patriots have their head coach, Mike Vrabel, introduced and installed down in Foxborough, all eyes turn to who New England will choose to shepherd Drake Maye from his current state of young virtuoso into the realm of elite quarterbacking.

New Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has confirmed that he's considering hiring Josh McDaniels as his offensive coordinator, but he says there are lots of other candidates for the job as well.

McDaniels' resume, which includes six total Super Bowl rings earned as an assistant and coordinator, speaks for itself.

Kelly and Vrabel also have history. They both served as members of Bill O’Brien’s staff with the Houston Texans. Kelly rose up the ranks to offensive coordinator there and survived O’Brien’s firing but not David Culley’s a year later. Vrabel hired him in Tennessee, where he served as passing game coordinator in 2022 and OC in 2023.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, there's "buzz" that Josh McDaniels could return as offensive coordinator of the Patriots.

The New England Patriots are swapping one of their former linebackers for another, as the franchise announced on Sunday that they had agreed to terms with Mike Vrabel to be the Patriots' 16th head coach.

“There is buzz in some coaching circles that Josh McDaniels could be a prime candidate to be Vrabel's offensive coordinator. That would be quite the nostalgia tandem, and though McDaniels is a two-time failed head coach, no one disputes his coordinator chops,” Jeremy Fowler reported.
