Near Buffalo, between 10 and 20 inches of lake effect snow is expected by the end of Sunday, according to the Weather Service. The southern part of Erie County, along with Wyoming, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties, are predicted to see 2 to 4 feet of snow by Monday night.

Officials in upstate New York counties have declared a state of emergency as they prepare for a major snowstorm that has already dumped over two feet of snow in the Midwest and is forecast to accumulate more this weekend.

A lake-effect storm continued to blanket parts of the Great Lakes region with snow on Saturday, closing highways on one of the biggest travel weekends of the year and prompting Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York to declare a state of emergency on Friday in 11 counties.

The snowfall was heaviest along Interstate 90, the National Weather Service said, which hugs Lake Erie from Buffalo, New York, and on to Cleveland.

The National Weather Service warned that severe winter conditions—triggered by an Arctic blast—could persist over the weekend into Monday.

As we head into Black Friday, snow has already begun to fall all across the region, major travel restrictions are in effect this morning, and over a foot of snow is expected through the holiday weekend.

As we close out Black Friday, many areas throughout the region are seeing well over a foot of snow and might see at least another foot overnight. The snow falls heavy at times causing travel concerns with I-90 and the I-79 corridor impacted.
