Alberta is taking Ottawa to court, saying the federal government has failed to follow through on necessary changes to a law governing resource development.

EDMONTON – Alberta is taking Ottawa to court, saying the federal government has failed to follow through on necessary changes to a law governing resource development. The federal Impact Assessment Act determines whether major resource projects should be approved based on the environmental, economic or social impact each project might have.

Alberta is going to court against Ottawa again, now totalling 10 cases on everything from guns to oil. The province added to that list Thursday, announcing a new lawsuit claiming Canada’s amendments to the impact assessment act are both bad for oil and gas and still tread on Alberta’s turf.
