Ukrainian drones struck deep inside Russia in an overnight attack targeting an oil facility serving a military airfield in the city of Engels, nearly 400 miles from the border, Ukraine’s military said Wednesday.

Russian authorities set up an emergency command centre to fight a fire at the facility near Engels, in the Saratov region.

Ukraine's armed forces said Wednesday they attacked a strategic Russian oil depot overnight used to provide fuel for strategic bombers. A huge fire erupted at the Kombinat Kristall depot in the Russian city of Engels.

The depot supplied a nearby airfield that was reportedly used by aircraft which launch missiles across the border into Ukraine. #EuropeNews

Russia has claimed that its forces captured a battered but strategic town in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, a day after Kyiv launched a counterattack in the Russian region of Kursk.

Ukrainian officials say that a Russian missile attack in the southern Ukraine city of Zaporizhzhia has killed at least 13 civilians and wounded about 30 others
