Four-time F1 champion Max Verstappen has experienced an unexpected setback at the Qatar Grand Prix as an FIA penalty stripped him of his pole position following an incident during the qualifying session.

George Russell threw down the early benchmark early in Q3, putting his W15 on provisional pole by over three-tenths over Charles Leclerc. McLaren’s Lando Norris pulled out of his first push lap after a snap at Turn 4 saw his MCL38 veer off the racing line.

Max Verstappen may have secured pole position for Sunday’s Qatar Grand Prix; however, he won’t line up P1.
