We’re nearing the end of awards week for the Baseball Writers’ Association of America’s four-highest honors that are handed out after every baseball season.The third was announced last night as Paul Skenes was unanimously named the Cy Young Award winner in the National League.

The 2025 American League Cy Young Award winner came as no surprise, Detroit Tigers' Tarik Skubal. Skubal had another phenomenal season but for the Texas Rangers' organization it was hard to see one of their own not named as a finalist let alone the victor, Nathan Eovaldi.

Skenes followed up his Rookie of the Year campaign by leading all of baseball with a 1.97 ERA over 187 innings pitched. An impressive mark (though an untested one considering he never once faced off against the potent San Francisco Giants lineup). His 0.95 WHIP paced the National League while his 216 strikeouts ranked third.

From its inception in 1956 until 1966, the Cy Young Award was given annually to the best pitcher in Major League Baseball. Since then, the award has been presented every season to the best pitcher in each league -- American League and National League.
