The US president will meet his Ukrainian counterpart in Washington on Monday in the wake of his Alaska summit with Vladimir Putin on Friday.
The upcoming summit between President Donald Trump and his counterpart Vladimir Putin is being used by the Kremlin to divide the U.S. from Europe over the war in Ukraine, according to analysis.
(Reuters) -European shares rose on Monday, extending the strong momentum from last week on optimism over a potential Ukraine peace deal, while investors turned their attention to upcoming U.S. inflation data and tariff negotiations later in the week.
But experts say India's refusal to reduce duties on agriculture and dairy products has been a major thorn in the negotiations. Trump's new 50% tariff rate on India is set to come into effect on 27 August, which some experts have said is akin to an embargo on trade between the two countries.
Washington will authorize certain sanctioned transactions that are required to organize upcoming U.S.-Russia talks in Alaska. The authorization expires on Aug. 20.
The Modi government will hope that Washington and Moscow will arrive at a final agreement on how to deal with Ukraine and Trump will discard the 25 per cent additional tariff. At the minimum, Delhi would want Trump to postpone the deadline of August 27 for implementing the additional tariffs against India.
