Prosecutors said the judge was disrespectful and called for a new judge to oversee a new trial. Hermoso said the guilty verdict for Rubiales set an “important precedent” for women’s rights.

Rubiales was also banned from going within a 200-metre radius of Hermoso and from communicating with her for a period of one year. He denied the charges and is also appealing the ruling.
