PORTLAND (WGME) --- A messy winter storm arrives in Maine Friday night and will continue through Monday. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain will bring messy travel conditions and the potential for power outages. While a major ice storm is not expected, some may see ice levels that bring the risk of at least scattered outages.
The calendar reads spring, but a winter storm watch has been issued for parts of northern New England ahead of weekend snow.
Snow shower activity will exit the area by mid-morning followed by a mix of sun and clouds for the remainder of the day as high pressure builds into the region.
A messy storm arrives this weekend, bringing with it snow, sleet, and freezing rain for both Saturday and Sunday. Thursday will be quite nice with lots of sun and highs in the mid to upper 40s. Friday looks very similar with plenty of sun and highs in the 40s.
State offices in Maine closed early Monday at 2 p.m. due to “expected hazardous snow conditions,” officials said.
The view of the eclipse could be spectacular, but the wintry weather forecast is looking like a major problem.
