Get ready to celebrate. The Lunar New Year is just around the corner. The holiday, which marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring, begins on Jan. 29 and runs through Feb. 12. According to Chinese astrology, this is the Year of the Wood Snake. People born under this sign are considered to be cautious, mysterious, charming and wise.

Starting Jan. 29, 2025, the Chinese Lunar New Year marks the Year of the Wood Snake. It’s celebrated for 15 days, ending on Feb. 12, or Lantern Festival.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — The Grand Rapids Public Library invites the community to celebrate the Lunar New Year with events honoring traditions from China, Korea, Vietnam and other Asian countries.

Snag your ticket to Mother Tongue’s Year of the Snake Celebration on Feb. 1 at Expo on Dundas Street West. The event features entertainment by performers like Edmund Stay and Ancient Greece, with a tattoo pop-up for those wanting to start the Lunar New Year with some fresh ink. The event runs from 7 p.m. until midnight and tickets are $25.
