On March 27, Trump ordered the federal government to stop working with Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP (WilmerHale)—suspending the law firm’s security clearances, directing federal agencies to terminate contracts they have with the firm, and limiting WilmerHale employees’ access to government buildings.

Boston lawyers normally love to talk. But not this week. And certainly not about this topic. I reached out to more than a half-dozen of the city’s largest law firms, to talk Trump. None would go on the record. The silence spoke volumes.

Trump singled out the firm for hiring political foe Robert Mueller, who led the probe into whether Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 election. The president said WilmerHale “rewarded” Mueller for abusing his “prosecutorial power to upend the democratic process and distort justice.”
