The Riyadh Metro will officially launch on Sunday, December 1 and a phased opening will see additional lines opened. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud inaugurated the Riyadh Metro, the backbone of the capital’s public transport network.

The metro, which will eventually span 176 kilometers, is set to become the world’s longest driverless metro system. This new public transportation network is expected to help ease traffic congestion and reduce the city’s reliance on cars.

Citigroup Inc. received approval from Saudi Arabia to set up its regional headquarters in Riyadh, the latest sign that the kingdom is having some success in attracting more financial firms to set up bases in the country.
