Typhoon Fung-wong made landfall on the main island of Luzon, prompting the evacuation of more than one million people, just days after an earlier storm killed over 200.

Philippines President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. approved a state of emergency declaration on Thursday as the storm response continued.

HANOI (Reuters) -At least five people died in Vietnam after Typhoon Kalmaegi pummelled coastal regions with destructive winds and heavy rain, officials said on Friday, following the storm's deadly passage through the Philippines where it killed at least 188 people.

Aerial footage from the Philippines shows the destruction wrought on homes and streets by Typhoon Kalmaegi. It was one of the strongest typhoons in the Philippines this year. At least 85 people have died in the flooding and another 75 are missing. The floodwaters swept shipping containers through the streets and cars have been left in piles.
