As Odisha and West Bengal are bracing for a severe cyclonic storm, governments of both states started evacuating people and while deciding to close educational institutions in vulnerable areas.

As Cyclone Dana approaches Odisha and Kolkata, residents should be aware of common cyclone-related illnesses such as waterborne diseases, vector-borne infections, respiratory issues, and skin infections.

Cyclone Dana is set to make landfall on Odisha-West Bengal coasts on the night of October 24, bringing severe winds, heavy rains, and a potential threat to coastal areas.

Over 150 express and passenger trains operating through South Eastern Railway (SER) jurisdiction have been cancelled due to the expected formation of a severe cyclonic storm, anticipated to impact the Odisha-West Bengal coasts on October 25, an SER official stated on Tuesday (October 22).

Cyclone Dana, which is expected to make landfall in West Bengal and Odisha on Thursday, has forced the closure of schools and the evacuation of beaches ahead of Diwali and Kali Puja. Cyclonic storm Dana is forming in a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal.

Odisha Minister Suresh Pujari said apart from 800 cyclone shelters, an additional 500 temporary shelters have been made ready including schools and colleges.
