OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — Scottie Scheffler erased a four-shot deficit in five holes and then delivered a haymaker on the daunting par-3 17th by chipping in from 82 feet for birdie that carried him to victory Sunday in the BMW Championship for his fifth PGA Tour title of the year.
Scottie Scheffler, of course, has done it again. Thanks in part to an absolutely wild chip-in down the stretch at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland, Scheffler overtook Robert MacIntyre to claim the BMW Championship on Sunday afternoon.
It’s also been a successful return for Maryland with an expected 7-8% boost in economic impact this go around, according to executive director of the Maryland Sports Commission Terry Hassletine. “Their wallets are a little freer because we're away from what was 2021, which was just coming out of COVID,” he said.
The world's top 50 professional golfers are back in County this week to compete in the BMW Championship, bringing thousands of fans to the area and a boost to the economy.
Officials believe the 2025 BMW Championship in Maryland can exceed the 2021 tournament’s economic impact of over $50 million.
