Boston City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson defied calls to resign from her six-figure job amid federal public corruption charges that allege she ripped off thousands of dollars from taxpayers, saying she remains committed to her work.

The District 7 councilor's arrest last week was a shocking stumble in what had once been a promising political career.

Fernandes Anderson was charged Friday in federal court with five counts of wire fraud and one count of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds.
