Voting kicked off Sunday for the 50th Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) Awards. After announcing John Carpenter as the recipient of this year’s Career Achievement Award, LAFCA members recognized some of the year’s best films and talents during Sunday’s voting ahead of the awards ceremony on Jan.

Oscar-winning indie studio Neon emerged as the big winner at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association’s 50th annual selections of the best films and performances, clinching top honors for two of its major contenders: the poignant dramedy “Anora” and the politically-charged thriller “The Seed of the Sacred Fig.

Sean Baker’s “Anora” won big with the Atlanta Film Critics Circle (AFCC) this year, taking home the critics’ organization’s Best Film prize for 2024. “Anora” follows a Brighton Beach stripper named Ani (Mikey Madison) who embarks on a whirlwind romance with the son of a Russian oligarch (Mark Eydelshteyn).
