The bipartisan group of rank-and-file senators who have been negotiating a way out of the shutdown are mulling over a number of modifications to the bill. Lawmakers are expected to attempt to change the date that the short-term extension of government funding expires to a yet-to-be-determined later day.

The Senate is going to vote on a bipartisan bill later today to block the U.S. military from conducting strikes against Venezuela without approval from Congress.

Senate Republicans blocked legislation that would limit Trump’s ability to launch a military attack on Venezuela.

“Under the banner of ‘defending sovereignty,’ Maduro has given new impetus to the total militarisation of the country,” said Oscar Murillo, co-ordinator of rights group Provea.
