The identity of the pseudonymous Bitcoin creator has eluded sleuths for years. But does finding the real Mr. Nakamoto really matter?

While the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is still more or less unknown, it is believed that Nakamoto owns billions of dollars' worth of Bitcoin.

Today, Bitcoin is the world's first decentralized digital currency, whose history began in 2008 when Satoshi Nakamoto published a white paper where he first introduced the concept of a decentralized digital currency independent of banks and governments.

If the new HBO film got it right, the relatively unknown software developer could be one of the richest people in the world.

"Of course I'm not Satoshi," Todd told CoinDesk Tuesday, saying that filmmaker Cullen Hoback was "grasping at straws."

Little is known about this person or group, and their identity has never been confirmed. In October 2008, a message signed by Satoshi Nakamoto
