As the best Android smartwatches battle to bring Android's Wear OS 5 update to older generations of devices, mixed fortunes mean a rollout for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 could be close at hand. Not so for older Pixel Watch owners, who could have a long wait in store.

The Galaxy Watch 4, 5, and 6 are getting Samsung's latest watch faces that first debuted on the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra.

Google might re-release Wear OS 5 for the Pixel Watch and Watch 2 alongside Android 15 for Pixel phones. Reports suggest the latter might drop on October 15, so Google might release the fixed Wear OS 5 build on the same day as well.

Google does offer a couple of potential fixes for the blank screen issue, but one involves resetting your watch to factory settings.

While the previous firmware release has caused issues for the Pixel Watch users, the company's fix will come later this year.

Pixel Watch 1 and 2 owners will have to wait to update to Wear OS 5 to avoid the possibility of turning their watch into an expensive friendship bracelet.
