United States defender Naomi Girma will miss Chelsea's League Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on Sunday through injury, Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor has confirmed.

Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor has confirmed United States international Naomi Girma will miss Saturday’s Subway Cup final through injury.

Naomi Girma, a top defender for the USWNT, made her debut for Chelsea Sunday in a WSL match following a record-breaking transfer fee in January.

Girma completed a record-breaking transfer to Chelsea from the San Diego Wave in January. The USWNT star became the first $1 million transfer in women's soccer, joining the WSL champion in a deal worth $1.1 million. The 24-year-old had to wait more than a month to make her debut for Chelsea as she worked her way back from a calf injury.
