Nearly 35,000 homes and businesses in the Houston area were without electricity as of 8 a.m. Monday, according to CenterPoint Energy's online outage tracker.
By 8pm New Year’s Eve night, most of the area will have temperatures in the 20s with communities in northeastern Siouxland in the teens. By midnight, temperatures will be in the teens and low 20s but it could feel like the single digits for some.
Temperatures will gradually rise overnight into Monday morning, climbing above freezing throughout the region. However, this brief warming trend will be quickly replaced by very windy and much colder conditions on Monday afternoon into Tuesday as a strong cold front moves through the area.

North Georgia weather: Cold front brings rain, plunging temperatures Monday
A cold front moving through North Georgia on Monday will bring early rain followed by a significant temperature drop that will last through New Year's Eve.
Wind chills will be colder in Oklahoma City, feeling in the teens Monday morning and rising into the 20s by Monday afternoon. The highest temperatures will be in western Oklahoma, as highs reach 44-46 degrees. The high in the Oklahoma City metro, however, will be 38 degrees.
