A gifted Christmas tree from Norway has reached its final stop on its journey to London and has been put up in Trafalgar Square. Every year since 1947 a tree has been felled and transported from Nordmarka Forest to England's capital city to recognise the UK's assistance to Norway during the Second World War.

To make this year’s tree more environmentally friendly, a sapling will be planted in its place and the chopped down one will travel part of the way in an electric truck. The the 56-year-old, 20m high fir will arrive in London in time to be lit up in Trafalgar Square on December 5.

For the 77th anniversary of the tradition, the tree will be illuminated in the square on Thursday, December 5, 2024. The switch-on event will start at 5pm and the festivities will include the Choir of St-Martin-in-the-Fields singing some Christmas carols led by the Regent Hall Band of the Salvation Army.
