Krishnagiri: Heavy rains battered Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining areas Cyclone Fengal made landfall on Sunday. Incessant rains caused a flood-like situation in the southern state. Krishnagiri district in the state is the worst affected.

Cyclone Fengal has caused severe flooding in Tamil Nadu, with parked buses being swept away in Uthangarai due to the overflowing Parasaneri Lake.

Vikravandi and Krishnagiri were worst-affected; Villupuram and Puducherry have also been reeling for the past two days.

In several parts of Villupuram and the neighboring Cuddalore district vehicles were submerged in up to two feet of water with many roads completely submerged. The Thenpennai River overflowed and trees were uprooted in many areas.

Several vehicles were toppled on the roadside after floods hit Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri on Monday, following Cyclone Fengal's landfall.

In the wake of Cyclone Fengal, Chennai faces a massive cleanup effort, with the Greater Chennai Corporation working to remove piles of garbage and fallen tree debris. Beaches are littered, and conservancy workers are putting in long hours to restore normalcy.

The rescue operation near the lower slopes of Annamalaiyar Hill was halted by Sunday night due to the rain and the possibility of more landslides.
