SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Chanting “This is what democracy looks like,” thousands of protesters were in downtown Sacramento on Saturday as part of a nationwide day of demonstrations. The “No Kings” protests, staged in cities across the country, were organized in response to Saturday's military parade in Washington, D.C.

A protest that started at Sacramento's Cesar Chavez Plaza later combined with one at the California State Capitol. They both had the same overall message: stop the ICE raids.

After a weekend of violent anti-deportation protests in San Francisco and Los Angeles, Sacramento's mayor is not concerned that violence will happen in his city.

Thousands showed up at multiple ‘No Kings’ rallies in Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado counties to protest President Trump on the same day as a military parade in Washington D.C.

Protesters chanted “No hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here” and “love, not hate, makes America great,” condemning the recent actions of ICE officials throughout the country, and the decisions by the Trump administration, namely in Los Angeles where anti-ICE protests and unrest continue for the fourth day.

The demonstrations come on the heels of protests flaring up around the country over federal immigration enforcement raids that began last week and Trump ordering National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles where protesters blocked a freeway and set cars on fire.
