Smith is going to retire in five years. The band turns 50 in 2028; in 2029, Smith turns 70, “and that’s it, that really is it. If I make it that far, that’s it.” Smith, who does some irreparable brand damage by coming off so lovely in the interview (not to mention publicly announcing that he doesn’t read by candlelight),

“I’m 70 in 2029,” he said. “And that’s it, that really is it. If I make it that far, that’s it.” Robert Smith said that The Cure will definitely tour in 2025. He also said that new music is coming as well. The band allegedly recorded three entire albums back in 2019. They have plans to release them in the next couple of years.
