A New Jersey state policeman, who had previously been tasked with protecting the governor, shot and killed his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.

Jeannine Semanchik, the victim's mother, said her daughter tried to alert authorities about her unstable ex-boyfriend, but no action was taken to ensure her safety.

Killed in what investigators said was a "targeted act" in Pittstown, Henderson County, were 33-year-old Lauren Semanchik, a local veterinarian, and 29-year-old Tyler Webb, a volunteer firefighter from Forked River, New Jersey, according to the prosecutor's office.
