After an uneven rollout that left many scrambling for Department of Motor Vehicles appointments ahead of the long-anticipated enforcement of REAL ID, air travel across the US went smoothly Wednesday — with many passengers opting to use their passports and officials ushering people without REAL IDs to separate lines for enhanced screening.

Real ID Act was passed by Congress, Wednesday was the day when enforcement of the Real ID began. It's now required for everyone in the US to have one if they are flying, accessing certain federal buildings or entering nuclear power plants.

On the first day of a new travel ID requirement, security checkpoints at Miami International Airport seemed to be business as usual for passengers. Derril Young even had enough time on Wednesday afternoon to sit at a restaurant in Concourse D and drink a Corona as he wrapped up a vacation with his family in the Magic City.
