A police officer and a suspect were shot and were sent to a hospital, according to the Greenville Police Department. The officer has died.

Michigan State Police are investigating in Lincoln Park after a city police officer and suspect were shot Tuesday afternoon. In a social media post, Michigan State Police said Special Investigation Section officers had been requested at the scene in the 26400 block of Outer Drive at 3:50 p.m.

Officer Cooper Dawson was conducting a traffic stop around 7:40 p.m. that led to a foot pursuit near 3500 Pickett Street. While pursuing the suspect, Dawson was ambushed and shot multiple times, police said.
