David Boren, the former Oklahoma governor and longtime U.S. Senate intelligence chief who went on to lead the University of Oklahoma after his retirement from politics, has died.

A Democrat, he became a powerful voice on national intelligence in the Senate before leaving to become president of the University of Oklahoma.

With his retirement from OU in 2018, David Boren concluded a half-century public career. It included three decades in elected office, during which he never lost an election.
