After a long wait filled with leaks, reveals, preorder stress, and hands-on events, the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch day has finally arrived around the world, including launch events at retailers like Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy, and Target.
The Nintendo Switch 2 improves on one of the best consoles ever with smoother gameplay, a better design and some fun new tricks, but you can probably wait a bit to buy one.
Mario Kart World was tested on Nintendo Switch 2. Pokémon Legends: Z-A will arrive on October 16, 2025, but pre-orders begin on June 5. The Pokémon Company also announced new Mega Evolution merchandise (available now on the Pokémon Center) and confirmed the Pokémon Presents presentation coming July 22.
From the looks of it, things won't be slowing down soon, as Nintendo has prepared well for the Switch 2's high demand, with preorder night out of the way and its biggest retail partners consistently restocking for in-store purchases and pickups.
Some handhelds are overestimating while others are underestimating the amount of time left to play before the battery dies. The good news is that there's a quick fix.
The pricey Nintendo Switch 2 is a worthy successor to the original Switch. Expect it to be the vessel for Nintendo's play-focused storytelling for the next decade.
Nintendo says only USB-C cameras are compatible with the new Switch 2, but many users have found evidence to the contrary.
