Two Ontario men are facing charges after police in the U.S. say they seized 540 kilograms of cocaine from a tractor-trailer along Interstate 80 in Illinois.

On Nov. 29, at approximately 2:10 p.m., an ISP trooper conducted a commercial motor vehicle inspection on a Volvo truck-tractor semi-trailer combination on Interstate 80 eastbound in Henry County.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people from Canada have been arrested on drug charges, after Illinois State Police seized more than $40 million worth of cocaine from a semi-trailer truck near the Iowa state line on Friday. Police said, around 2:10 p.m., a trooper conducted a vehicle inspection on a Volvo semi-trailer on Interstate 80 in Henry County.

Nearly 1,200 pounds of cocaine was discovered in packages inside a tractor-trailer during an inspection by an Illinois State Police trooper in Henry County.

Illinois State Police arrested two Canadian residents after seizing more than 1,100 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated $40 million from a semi-trailer along Interstate 80 near the Illinois-Iowa border,

Two suspects, both from Ontario, Canada, were arrested during a traffic stop on Friday, according to an ISP press release.

The Canadian men were driving a truck east on Interstate 80 in Henry County, Illinois. Police allegedly found 1,000 pounds of cocaine inside.

They don’t call it the “Great White North” for nothing. Two Canadian men were busted after smuggling over 1,100 pounds of cocaine — worth over $40 million — across the border into Illinois last week.
