In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the United States and Ukraine initiated steps to secure lasting peace in Ukraine. An immediate 30-day ceasefire proposal is on the table, subject to Russia's acceptance. Both nations also plan economic collaborations and stress humanitarian efforts in the peace process.

Saudi Arabia welcomed on Friday the chance to host a meeting between the U.S. and Ukraine next week, its foreign ministry said, adding that the kingdom would continue to do its utmost to help end the Ukraine-Russia war.

U.S. and Ukrainian officials met in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for major talks on Tuesday with the goal of charting a course toward ending Russia's three-year-old war.

Russia is ready to discuss the outcomes of the US and Ukraine negotiations in Jeddah with the American side. Contacts between Moscow and Washington could take place as early as March 13, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Thursday.
