A strong lake-effect situation will bring heavy snow to the western part of Lower Michigan. The Winter Storm Watch area shows where the heavy snow will fall.

Colder temperatures are in store for southeast Michigan as a surge of arctic air reaches the region, according to the National Weather Service. The weather service on Tuesday issued a winter storm watch for a portion of southwest Michigan and counties around Grand Rapids warning of snow accumulations as high as 6 and 14 inches, respectively.

An Arctic blast Wednesday will bring West Michigan the coldest air since last January, and is expected to trigger lake effect snow showers Wednesday and Thursday. The snow may be heavy at times, particularly in the snow belt west of US-131.
