Israeli jets struck a residential building in central Beirut on Tuesday and issued new evacuation orders for 20 buildings in the Lebanese capital’s southern suburbs.

The proposed deal is said to resemble the United Nations Security Council resolution which ended the 2006 war, but with more international support to push the Iran-backed armed group away from the border with Israel and bolster regular Lebanese army troops deploying there when Israeli forces withdraw.

A ceasefire deal that could end more than a year of cross-border fighting between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah militant group won backing from Israeli leaders Tuesday, raising hopes and renewing difficult questions in a region gripped by conflict.
