When the Detroit Tigers returned to the postseason last year for the first time in a decade, they did it without great production from Casey Mize and Spencer Torkelson.

The Tigers, at 13-8, are off to their best start since 2015. They have won six in a row against the Royals since last season.

Spencer Torkelson broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning with a towering three-run home run to left field to give starting pitcher Casey Mize some breathing room. Mize continued his dominant performance in his fourth start of the season, cruising through six innings before allowing a solo home run to Freddy Fermin in the seventh inning.
