In the early hours of February 21, 2025, the cryptocurrency world was thrust into chaos. A staggering $1.5 billion in digital assets vanished from Bybit, a Dubai-based cryptocurrency exchange, in what is now the largest crypto heist in history.

Following the revelation Friday from cryptocurrency exchange firm Bybit that hackers stole digital tokens worth about $1.5 billion – in what may be the biggest crypto heist of all time – CEO Ben Zhou wrote on X Sunday that it has replenished its reserves. Bybit was able to do this through a mix of emergency loans and large deposits.

Ben Zhou, Bybit's CEO, said that the hack had affected around 401,000 Ethereum and sparked a surge in withdrawal requests.

The malicious Javascript code used in the attack could secretly modify transactions for SafeWallet, a cryptocurrency wallet provider.

Bybit CEO Ben Zhou announced that the exchange has fully recovered its Ethereum (ETH) reserves following a massive $1.5 billion exploit on February 21. He confirmed that a new audited Proof of Reserves (POR) report will soon be released to prove that client assets are once again backed 1:1.
