If the rear atmos speakers are directly above the MLP, then why do you need angled speakers? Regarding the current atmos speaker placement, you could assign the front ceiling speakers as front heights (this will expand the front sound stage vertically, but won't carry atmos effects) and the rear ceiling speakers as top middle (for atmos effects).
Dolby Atmos has 2 layers (and everything in between them of course). With Auro-3D there is a seperate "voice of god" channel, which is a mono signal in the ceiling playing over 1 or more speakers. I have configured my home theater as 18.1, which is basically to layers of 7.0 above each other on the walls + 4 speakers in the ceiling + LFE.
